Davis Cup – originally known as International Lawn Tennis Challenge Trophy -, is the main and biggest international tennis tournament in the sports scene.<\/strong> It attracts tennis players from all over the globe, giving them the unique opportunity to represent and play for their homeland.<\/span><\/p>\n

How did the tournament start?<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

With Davis\u00a0Dwight,<\/strong> born in 1879,\u00a0as well as serving as Secretary of War was also an incredible athlete<\/strong>. In 1899, Davis, in partnership with others,<\/span>\u00a0proposed the idea of an international tennis competition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I<\/strong>n 1900, he then bought a trophy dedicated to the winner of the first contest, the international championship was then founded<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span>The first contest worth the trophy was a match between USA and British Isles, that took place in the Longwood Cricket Club in Boston.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ITF,\u00a0International Tennis Federation <\/strong><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Currently, The International Tennis Federation (ITF), is responsible for managing and running the tournament.<\/strong> With<\/span>\u00a0over 200 member National Associations, the tournament gathers<\/span>\u00a0nations coming from every continent, and motivates the associations to organise and promote the sport.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Federation Cup<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Later – in 1963, after Davis Cup -, ITF launched the Federation Cup<\/a>\u00a0in order to celebrate the organisation\u2019s 50th anniversary.<\/strong> Created by<\/span>\u00a0Mrs Hazel Hotchkiss Wightman, the main concept was to introduce an idea of a women’s team competition.<\/p>\n

Since 1995 women are part of the tournament, and thanks to this acceptance they are a symbol of respect and greatness in the world of tennis.<\/p>\n

Croatia on the Davis Cup finals<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

This year, Croatia is playnig on the finals of the tournament against France<\/strong>, on the 23 of november at the <\/strong><\/span>Stade Pierre Mauroy, Lille, France.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the official tennis world cup website, Davis Cup, BNP Paribas:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFrance has enjoyed another excellent year with strong victories over Netherlands in Albertville, Italy in Genoa and Spain in Lille.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

“Croatia’s path to the final began with comfortable victories<\/strong> against Canada in Osijek and Kazakhstan in Varazdin, before thwarting a comeback by USA in the semifinals in Zadar, where Borna Coric won a decisive fifth rubber to secure Zeljko Krajan’s team a final berth for the third time in its history. <\/span><\/p>\n

Krajan’s men must now travel away from home for the first time this year, and their recent history on the road indicates they will not let the French home crowd intimidate them – the Croatians have not lost away from home since 2015.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
